Rosario Retreat (and camping)

Every year our church organizes a weekend long retreat.  I think that ninety percent of the church attends this event.  It really is a wonderful experience for everyone.

This takes place at Rosario Beach, WA, a beautiful place for families to enjoy the wonderful, relaxing world of God, it has such a beautiful scenery, we got lots of pictures -that are awaiting to be moved to the laptop, but until then, here are a few.   A fun, caring, and loving group of people from the Social Committee puts this event together, with the help and support from our Pastors, of course.

This year, instead of staying in a cabin or just going for the day (which we actually ended up doing anyway), we decided -thanks to Jeanne and Cale- to go camping at their parents' house.

We left on Friday, but before I get into the details of the retreat, I want to tell you a bit about how that week went...

The weekend prior to our camping trip I had a migraine headache that lasted for over three days, I left work early on Monday because of the headache; on Tuesday I finally went to the doctor who thought I needed immediate relief (duh!) and decided to give me a shot of whatever it was called (very-very-very really painful), you can only imagine how relieved I felt after that shot...  I felt as if I was sleepwalking!  And to make matters worst -or better- the kids' school had the Spring Picnic event that evening.  We were not going to miss that!   It is one of the last events of the year.

The very next day, on Wednesday, Nana woke up around 3am crying because she had a sore throat, was coughing, and her chest was hurting -badly-, so I stayed home with her from work and took her to the doctor (second visit in two days).  Her diagnosis was ear, sinus, and throat infection... ahhhh!!!  Back on antibiotics!

When we thought this was over, and after a few days of not sleeping, on Thursday, while I was at work, I get a message from Wes saying that he was having some issues: chest and heart pain, difficulty breathing, and cold sweats.  I left work thinking the worst, not knowing what to do.  We arrived at the emergency room and they immediately helped him.  Electrocardiogram (EKG), Stress Test (on the treadmill), lab work, ultrasounds, these are some of the tests that were performed on Wes while I just kept on going back and forth from the room to the hall to keep my family updated with the stats.

After seeing the Cardiologist, we learned that Wes' heart is healthy but they couldn't figure out why he was feeling all of those symptoms, so they discharged us and we went home.  Our plan was to go camping the next day so I suggested that we didn't go so he could rest but he insisted saying that it would probably make him feel better.
Friday arrived and we got our camping gear together and met Jeanne, Cale, and the girls and headed off to our destination: Oak Harbor.   It rained all night, but that was just nice!   It was all worthy!

We made it to the retreat on Saturday, unfortunately, we missed the service but we were able to spend time with our friends and church family.   The beach, the sun, family, friends, kids, fire, the perfect day.  We headed back to our camping spot because Jeanne's grandpa was turning 93 years old and her mom was throwing a get together for their family and since we were there we joined in their celebration.  We felt blessed for being able to enjoy such a great united family.

Before going to bed, we roasted marshmallows, well, Carol (Jeanne's mom) roasted the perfect marshmallow for me and Nano, she is a sweetheart!  We had such a lovely evening.  When we finally put the kids in their tents, said our prayers, and were ready to sleep, Wes started feeling sick again; he couldn't breath and he was panicking; we were up almost all night.   Wes finally fell asleep around 5:45am while I, on the other hand, was not able to get any sleep.

On Sunday, we were packing our stuff and got ready to go back home.   Off we went...  I think I slept all the way, I couldn't help it, I was physically and mentally exhausted.

We got home and after using his asthma inhaler Wes took a two-hour nap , we thought that maybe the albuterol could help him breath better and it did.

It was overall, a wonderful time... Watching the sunset (kind of), watching the kids play, roasting marshmallows, spending time with friends.  Now, all we need to do is get Wes to feel better.
