Post-op

I finally had my surgery yesterday morning, I'm glad to be home.

Here is how it all went:
We had to check in at 7:20am, Jeanne came to our house to take the kids over to her house... Thank you, Jeanne and Cale!
We left to the clinic but stopped at Starbucks for coffee (I wish it was for me though), Wes needed to grab food before the surgery since he was not going to be allowed to leave the clinic.
Well, when we finally got there, they took us in to the prep-room, they tried to poke me once but they couldn't find the vein so Terry (prep-op RN) called Pam (post-op RN) and Pam asked me where it would be a good place for my IV and of course, I had to be honest so they didn't poke many times, anyway, I told her that my hand was usually the best place for the IV so she put the needle right in without any trouble.

They connected all kinds of cables to my cold body, and then wrapped me in warm blankets. Soon the anesthesiologist came in and we talked about the surgery and of course, the anesthesia, and I explained to him how sick I get with anesthesia to which he replied saying that I was in good hands and that he would take good care of me.

The surgery
They finally took me in to the operating room and I started getting nervous but I closed my eyes for a minute and asked God to guide the doctor's and nurses' hands and eyes, and to take care of Nana and Nano, when I opened my eyes again the doctor asked me to count until 10 and by the time I reached 6 I was out...
Next thing I know they woke me up and I didn't feel any pain, until suddenly I felt like a burning sensation where they put the cast, the nurse said it wasn't really burning, it was just pain, so they gave me a pain killer and the pain magically went away; right when they called Wes back to the recovery room I felt nausea and started throwing up, but that feeling only lasted a couple of minutes; so once I was feeling better, they gave us the ok to go home.

In the car
You know that when you are going to have surgery, they tell you not to eat or drink after midnight and with no breakfast and a pain killer my stomach was hurting so bad I could hardly breath, it felt horrible, nothing we could do then until we got home...

At home
Wes made chicken soup, I ate, and then after my meal, I took the other medicine to help with the pain killer' side effects, which made me feel a lot better.

I have been in the same position since I got home meaning with my leg up in three pillows, and believe me it does not feel good after a day, to not be able to move around makes me think how we take our bodies for granted and sometimes we do not appreciate what a wonderful job God did with each one of us.
I am uncomfortable but not in pain which is a blessing, been munching on fruits all morning.

Before I left work I got flowers from Teresa and it was a nice gesture, it definitely made my day go smoother; and last night when I asked Wes to go to the store for some ginger-ale, on his way back he brought me flowers... now I have two beautiful bouquets :)

So... now the recovery depends on me, but before I go back to bed I want to tell you all how grateful I am to have my mom, dad, brothers and sister, my husband Wes, Nana and Nano, my mother, sister and brother in-law, all of my wonderful friends, and my church pastors for sending happy thoughts and keeping me in their prayers.

Love,
Paola
